“This is the way”— such a simple but powerful Mandalorian creed. This short phrase really defines the way of life for a Mandalorian. It is a reminder of their purpose and reason for what they choose to do.
Alright, some of you might be really confused. If there’s one thing people learn about me the fastest, it’s the fact that I am a major Star Wars fan. You can walk into my office and immediately see bits and pieces of a galaxy far, far away scattered around the room. With streaming services like Disney+ releasing new content and stories surrounding this fantasy universe, it has been a Star Wars fan’s paradise! One of these new stories has followed the Mandalorian, a lone gunslinger who finds himself on an unexpected journey to return a small creature (otherwise known as Baby Yoda to most) to his own kind. Throughout the series, the Mandalorian often uses the signature phrase mentioned above. “This is the way” is the designated course for his life, and he works to stick to that way as best he can.
While we all know that stories like the Mandalorian are fictional and simply for entertainment, it has made me think about an important truth. Like the Mandalorian, we too have a choice to follow “the way.” As Jesus is speaking to His disciples, He reminds them of something essential: “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6). Truly, the only way to have a relationship and connection with God is through Christ. Note the language He uses here—Jesus is not just A way, or A truth or A life that leads to the Father. He is THE ONLY way, truth, and life. While many in this world believe that there is a multitude of ways to be with God, Jesus makes it clear that He is the only way.
If we truly desire to have the relationship with God that we should, we must choose to live His way. Jesus must be our way of life. What we choose to do and how we live must be centered around what He expects of us. If we continue to live the way we want, we will not have a connection with the Father. Coming to the Father can only be through Jesus. This verse serves as a powerful reminder of what we need to be setting our lives on and how we reach that ultimate goal. We should allow it to become what motivates us and drives us to live faithfully to Him.
A life with the Father requires a dedication to what He has given us to follow after. Let us all look to Jesus for how we live our lives. Let us commit ourselves to follow Him day by day!
This is the way.
